See the center of Catholicism in Maastricht and a church that was proclaimed a Basilica Minor by the late Pope John Paul II. The Romanesque Basilica of Saint Servatius is located next to the Gothic church of Saint John. St. Servatius, the first bishop of Maastricht, is buried in the basilica’s crypt. Over the centuries, the basilica has become a place of pilgrimage where worshipers honor the saint with gifts. The basilica is also home to the largest bell in Holland, Grameer (Grandmother), which is a beloved symbol of Maastricht.
