This London icon is actually the name of the bell in the world's third tallest free-standing clock tower and is officially called the Great Bell. Big Ben is located in the Clock Tower at the Palace of Westminster. The 315-foot tall tower, which itself is often called Big Ben, was designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin in Gothic Revival style and finished in 1858. The Clock Tower, often called Elizabeth Tower, is a popular symbol representing the United Kingdom. Tours of the inside of the tower are limited to United Kingdom residents only.
