At the foot of the Santa Catalina Mountains sits one of the most unique experiments ever conducted. Originally designed as a prototype for space colonization, today this greenhouse-like structure is devoted to researching the earth's ecosystems and how they work together to sustain life on our planet. The 40-acre campus consists of a visitor's center, bookstore, cafe, and the Biosphere itself, which houses a rainforest, ocean, wetlands, grasslands, a fog desert, and a human habitat. Tours are conducted daily that take visitors through and teach them about each of the "biomes."
