This historic city along the Danube shouldn't be missed! Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, has a renovated Starý Mesto (Old Town) with narrow pedestrian streets and a thriving cafe culture, and much of the area is restricted to automobiles. The Socialist-era architecture of the city is also worth a look as a reminder of Communist life when Bratislava was part of Czechoslovakia, in particular Petrzalka, a massive housing project that is often referred to as “the Bronx of Bratislava” and home to more than 100,000 people.
