One of the most famous islands in Italy, if not the world, is so serene that it has been a resort since Roman times. Capri, in the Gulf of Naples, is home to Villa Jovis, one of the best-preserved Roman villas in Italy that was built by the Emperor Tiberius who ran the Roman Empire from Capri in his later years. Here you will also find Tiberius’s Leap, where disobedient servants and undesired guests were hurled over the cliff by order of the Emperor. Not to be missed is Anacapri, the island’s elevated picture-postcard town.
