The Avenue des Champs-Elysees is one of the world's most beautiful and expensive streets and is lined with posh boutiques, jewelry stores, cafes and cinemas. The 1.18-mile stretch of roadway that runs through Paris' 8th arrondissement was designed by landscape architect Andre Le Nôtre in 1667 at the request of French King Louis XIV. Champs-Elysees is a major tourist attraction running from Place de la Concorde to Place Charles de Gaulle - location of the great Arc de Triomphe. Many French holidays and events are celebrated on the street.
