Standing in the center of the city of Blois, the Chateau de Blois was built in the 13th century and was where Joan of Arc was blessed by teh Archibishop of Reims in 1429 before leading her armies against the English. Expanded from the 13th to the 17th century with additional buildings, the chateau houses 564 rooms and 75 staircases. Among its residences were Louis XII, Francois I, Henry III, Henry IV, and Gaston d'Orléans, brother of Louis XIII. Under King Louise-Phillipe, the chateau was designated a historic monument in 1841.
