College of William & Mary

Chartered in 1693, the Williamsburg, Virginia college is the second oldest higher education institution in the United States behind Harvard University. The College of William & Mary was established by an order from King William III and Queen Mary II and was a private school until 1906. It is the oldest college in the Southern United States. Famous alumni included U.S. presidents Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and John Tyler; political leader Henry Clay and astronaut David Brown.
