Founded atop the site of the medieval Eekhout Abbey, the Groeninge Museum offers a wide overview of the Belgium painters, comprised of over six centuries of art history. The main feature of the museum is the Flemish Primitives collection, which composes early Netherland painters from the 15th - 16th century such as Jan van Eyck and Gerard Davis. However, the museum is also home to neoclassical works of the 18th and 19th century painters, the Flemish Expressionist, and post-war modern art.
