See the professional associations for barristers in England and Wales, which in the past included such notable names as Oliver Cromwell, Charles Dickens, Mahatma Gandhi and Margaret Thatcher. The Inns of Court include libraries, dining facilities and professional accommodations. Each also has a church or chapel attached to it and is a self-contained precinct where barristers train and practice. Lincoln’s Inn, the oldest and most attractive, still has some original 15th-century buildings and a 17th-century chapel.
