The ruins of this hauntingly beautiful 15th-century castle lie on one of Scotland’s most scenic settings. Kilchurn Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed landmarks, is located at the northern end of Loch Awe on a small peninsula. Kilchurn Castle was the ancestral home of the Campbell clan. Today, visitors can climb to the top of the four-story castle tower for commanding views of Loch Awe and the surrounding hills, however, the castle is periodically restricted due to higher-than-usual levels of water in the loch that can render the castle grounds an island.
