The stunningly unique Roman Catholic institution was designed by architect Antoni Gaudi in a mix of Gothic and Art Noveau styles in 1883 and its construction remains uncompleted. Basilica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia, translated in English to mean Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family, was consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. The Barcelona jewel contains Nativity, Passion and Glory façades depicting religious scenes. It is a a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.
