Michie Tavern

Enjoy Southern home-style cooking in an 18th Century atmosphere at this Virginia landmark restaurant near Thomas Jefferson's Monticello in Charlottesville. Michie Tavern was first opened in 1784 in Earlysville, Virginia by William Michie, then owned by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1910 and later bought in 1927 by Josephine Henderson and moved to its current location by horse and wagon and a truck. The menu includes Southern Fried Chicken, Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork Barbecue, Black-eyed Peas, Stewed Tomatoes, Cornbread, Biscuits and Peach Cobbler. The establishment is on the U.S. Register of National Historic Places.
