One of the finest examples of 17th century military architecture, this fortified town lies at the confluence of three valleys within the Catalan Pyrenees mountain range. Named a UNESCO World Heritage site, Mont-Louis is part of a larger fortification project located along all borders of France and designed by military engineer Vauban. Guided tours are held daily for those who want to learn about the military tactics and life of French villagers in the 17th century. Don't forget to visit the world's first solar furnace, built in honor of "the Sun King," King Louis XIV.
