One of Germany’s most Teutonic cities is this capital and cultural center of Bavaria. Munich is home to world-class museums, a thriving art scene and a legendary Oktoberfest, with a seemingly infinite number of beer halls. Visitors to Munich’s sprawling English Garden, one of Europe’s largest city parks, will be amazed that they can actually surf on the Eisbach River, and might be more astounded by the nude sunbathers who legally lay out au naturel in the park. Not to be missed is the Residenzmuseum, home to Bavaria’s Wittelsbach rulers from 1508 until WWI, which now houses spectacular treasures.
