New York State Capitol

Perched atop State Street hill in New York's capital city of Albany, this is one of the most unique (and expensive!) state capitol buildings in the United States. Designed by multiple architects and featuring several architectural styles, the ornate stonework and numerous arches and towers are striking in their grandiosity. Inside, the "Million Dollar Staircase" features the carved sandstone faces of important public figures in American history. The War Room, home to the Governor's office, contains an intricate ceiling mural depicting war heroes both mythical and real. Free guided tours are held every weekday.
