To truly experience the influence of the Roman Empire, head to Nimes in the south of France. There you can tour the Nimes Arena, a Roman amphitheater built around 70 A.D.; the Maison Carree, one of the best-preserved temples in the former Roman Empire; and the Pont du Gard, a 31-mile aqueduct built by - you guessed it - the Romans. And don't forget you're just a short ride from the pristine beaches along the coast of Languedoc-Roussillon.
