Located in Georgetown Historic District, the pre-Revolutionary War structure was built in 1765 with blue granite by cabinetmaker Christopher Layman, who passed away soon after its completion. The new buyer Cassandra Chew constructed an additional wing in 1767 and the United States Government later bought the property in 1953. Visitors can observe Old Stone House's 18th Century rooms, relax in the garden and browse its gift shop. Washington D.C.'s oldest existing building is managed by the National Park Service and on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
