The Dukes of Burgundy held court in Dijon starting in the 14th century, making it one of the most important cities in medieval Europe. Today the palace in the city center serves as Town Hall and houses the offices of public officials. Therefore, it sometimes closes its gates to the public. However it does offer tours that include the Tower of Phillip the Bold, which rises above the city for great views. Another part of the palace contains Dijon’s art museum and adds color to any visit.
