See one of the most famous road junctions in the world. Piccadilly Circus was originally built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with Piccadilly and today lies at the intersection of five main roads: Regent Street, Shaftesbury Avenue, Piccadilly Street, Covent Street and Haymarket. It is a popular meeting place and tourist attraction that is surrounded by the London Pavilion, Criterion Restaurant and Criterion Theatre. At the center of the Circus is the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, built in 1893 to commemorate Lord Shaftesbury, a philanthropist known for his support of the poor.
