The ornate Italianate concert hall in London borders Kensington Gardens and is one of the United Kingdom's most popular concert venues. Royal Albert Hall was constructed from 1867-71 with six million red bricks, 80,000 terracotta blocks and a wrought-iron girder dome. It was built at the request of Prince Albert to have a central place to celebrate the arts. Its elaborately decorated red and gold auditorium can seat more than 5,200 people. The hall hosts ceremonies, exhibitions, public meetings and concerts.
