"Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God," reads the inscription on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Virginia's Arlington National Cemetery. A tomb sarcophagus was placed above the grave of the Unknown Soldier of World War I buried in 1921. Nearby are one unknown soldier from World War II buried in 1958, one from the Korean War also buried in 1958 and one from Vietnam laid to rest in 1984. The latter was exhumed in 1998 after it was identified as Air Force 1st Lt. Michael Joseph Blassie and buried in another location. The Vietnam Tomb of the Unknown will remain vacant. Each unknown military member was given the Medal of Honor at a burial ceremony.
