One of the largest and best preserved Jewish ghettos in Europe is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with St. Procopius Basilica and the Jewish Cemetery. Trebic's Jewish Quarter has two synagogues, a cemetery and more than 120 houses. Many of the quarter's Jewish residents were deported to concentration camps and killed by Nazi Germany during World War II. Since that decline in the Jewish population, many of the buildings such as the rabbi's office, school and town hall are used for other purposes.
