The well-preserved ancient Veronese amphitheater located in Piazza Bra dates back to 30 AD and was able to hold an audience of more than 30,000 people to watch games and entertainers. Verona Arena was partially destroyed by an 1117 earthquake. It has been a long-time major venue for opera with the first performances being in the 1850s. The arena that now has a capacity of 15,000 people hosts many concerts with past acts such as Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, Sting, Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney and One Direction.
