This historic Belgian town near Brussels is the gateway to the world famous Waterloo Battlefield where the armies of Napoleon were defeated, thus ending his reign as Emperor. Waterloo is a small town whose top attraction is the Wellington Museum, which displays artifacts from the battle. The museum in 1815 was the headquarters of the Duke of Wellington, commander in chief of the Allied armies facing the French forces under Napoleon. The various rooms in the former inn are dedicated to each of the nations that were involved in the battle.
