Itinerary

OVERVIEW
Unearth Australia's third-largest island on an adventure tour from Adelaide. Kangaroo Island, or "nature's playground" as it is commonly known, is famed for its plentiful wildlife, as well as its untamed landscapes, white sandy beaches, and friendly locals. Awaken your senses as you experience moments in nature you will never forget. Visit the icons, such as Flinders Chase National Park and Seal Bay. Ignite your taste buds during honey and wine tasting, and have the opportunity to participate in  National Trust, allowing you to give back during your trip. Take in views of untamed coastlines on magical walks, and keep your eyes peeled for native creatures from the land, sea and sky. Then roll out your swag under the billions of stars of southern skies.
While summer on the island is peak season, the cooler months provide just as much fun and adventure for nature lovers, and in fact, there are lots of benefits when travelling from April to September. Read more about this below in Know Before You Go.

【Itinerary】

Day 1: Adelaide - Kangaroo Island

Today, there's an early start to catch your 6.45 am SeaLink bus transfer from Adelaide CBD to the ferry terminal at Cape Jervis. Board the ferry for a 45-minute cruise to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Your Untamed Escapes Guide will meet you here and give you an overview of the adventure ahead for the next few days. Throughout your tour, you'll also have the opportunity to become a citizen scientist and contribute to conservation efforts and research on the island in partnership with Passport to Recovery. You can download the App on the way over on the ferry, so you're ready to go!
Hop on board the bus and take a scenic coastal drive to Pennington Bay on the island's south coast. With powerful swells rolling in, this beach is famed for its epic surf breaks. Climb the 500 steps to the top of Prospect Hill, the highest point on Kangaroo Island, for rewarding views and to get your bearings.
Kangaroo Island is the world's oldest bee sanctuary and is home to the only pure strain of Ligurian Bee in the world. Pop into a honey farm to learn all about these fascinating creatures and, of course, do a tasting. We'll have a picnic lunch here before setting off to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery and family-owned Dudley Wines, where you can sprawl out on their lush lawns and take in the incredible views over the ocean - the perfect place to relax and connect with your fellow travellers.Come late afternoon, arrive at our campsite, aptly named "Happiness". Featuring private access to one of Kangaroo Island's most stunning beaches - Antechamber Bay, you'll be right at home here for the next two nights. Enjoy some free time to relax or take a walk down to the beach.
Tonight, roll out your swag underneath the billions of stars of the Milky Way and feel an incredible connection with nature.
Today, we drive approximately 240 km.

Accommodation
Swag camping is on private property (see Know Before You Go for more information).

Day 2: Kangaroo Island
After breakfast, it's time for an incredible wildlife encounter. Seal Bay is home to the third-largest colony of endangered Australian sea lions, with around 800 calling the bay home. Join a 45-minute tour with the National Parks & Wildlife guides, who know pretty much everything there is to know about these beautiful creatures. Follow a boardwalk through the dunes down to the beach, and on the way, pass sea lions snoozing or even lying in the middle of the beach path and learn about conservation efforts to save this endangered species.
Next, we'll set our coordinates for the iconic Flinders Chase National Park, located at the northwestern point of the island. This park is renowned for its rock formations, impressive beaches, and abundant wildlife.
At Admirals Arch, wander along a boardwalk as you soak up the serenity and keep your eyes peeled for the resident New Zealand fur seals. Marvel at the Remarkable Rocks, shaped by nature for over 500 million years.
After a full day, head back towards camp for some free time to reflect and relax before dinner.
Today, we drive approximately 350 km.

Day 3: Kangaroo Island - Adelaide
Start the final day of your tour with a morning bush walk not far from camp, and after packing up, we'll bid farewell to Happiness. Along the quiet north coast of the island, find spectacular bird life in the shallow, calm waters of the lagoon and in the trees. Here, we will find a spot to have our final meal together, followed by a nice stroll along the water, looking for the many different species that inhabit the American River.
In the warmer months, weave your way through a labyrinth of caves before emerging at the beach voted best in Australia in 2023 - Stokes Bay. If the weather is right, enjoy some free time to snorkel among the rock pools or soak up the surrounding landscape.
This afternoon, have the opportunity to "give back" during a conservation volunteering experience. What we do this afternoon depends on the time of year, but you might find yourself collecting seeds, helping at a not-for-profit wildlife organisation or doing a beach clean-up.
After a fabulous Kangaroo Island tour, arrive in Penneshaw for your 5.30 pm ferry back to the mainland. Once you arrive in Cape Jervis, your SeaLink bus connection will have you back in Adelaide at 9 pm.

      - A moderate fitness level is required, and you need to be prepared for walks between 2-5 kilometres on some days. This may involve rough ground and perhaps getting wet.
      - Please advise of any special dietary requirements when you book. We offer plenty of variety and do our best to provide fresh products. Snacks, soft drinks and alcohol are not included.
      - Bags are restricted to 1 × 15 kg backpack/soft travel bag per person, plus one small piece of hand luggage.
      - As part of our COVID-Safe protocols, all passengers must complete online check-in, including a 'Fit for Travel' self-declaration to confirm they are free from illness. This is mandatory and must be completed at the latest 24 hours before departure.
      - This tour requires a minimum of six people to operate. In the unlikely event your departure is cancelled because minimum numbers have not been met, we will transfer all monies paid onto a future departure date. If this is not suitable, we will refund your tour price in full.
      • Please note that on occasion, the ferry times will change from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, with the return time to Adelaide bus station at 10:30 pm. If this is the case, you will be informed two days before the tour departs Adelaide.
      • Please read our full Booking Terms & Conditions before booking.
    • ACCOMMODATION & CAMPING
      - Camping accommodation is at a private property called Happiness at Antechamber Bay. Here, you can roll out your swag and camp under the stars in the camping area. The property also has a camp kitchen, bathroom and lounge facilities. It is also only a 10-minute wander down a bush track to a magical beach.
      - If it's too cold or wet to camp outside around the campfire, there is enough room to roll out our swags indoors in the old wine cellar where our lounge, kitchen and bathroom facilities are.
      - When camping, we use single swags. Swags are 'Aussie Bed Rolls' made from sturdy canvas with a mattress built into the swag. Passengers must provide a sleeping bag and pillow to insert into the swag.
      - This is a camping tour, and involvement from the passengers is required. This can include helping with meals and packing up camp.
    • ITINERARY CHANGES
      - Weather conditions in Australia can change quickly, and our experienced guides will always put the safety of our passengers first and stay abreast of weather conditions.
      - Itinerary changes may occur to ensure we provide the best possible experience. For example, if it is wet or cold, your Guide may change the beach and outdoor activities with indoor experiences such as visiting the Lavender Farm, Georges Castle and other cellar doors. Regardless of the weather, there is plenty to do, and any itinerary changes will be communicated to the group in advance.
    • Peak season on the island might be summer, but for nature lovers, the cooler months provide just as much fun and adventure. After all, as the saying goes, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing".
    • In autumn, the wind is low, and the days are bright and clear. The calm weather makes autumn a wonderful time for snorkelling and bushwalking. Come winter, birdlife is teeming, and the seascapes seem even more dramatic. Kangaroo joeys emerge from their mothers' pouches, and young koalas are easily spotted, perched on their mums' backs. Winter is whale time with the annual migration of the Southern Right Whales. You can often spot mothers and their young resting along the sheltered bays. It is also when the bush bursts into colour as native plants bloom. It really is a photographer's dream.
