The Buddhist Temple in Kent, New York has the largest indoor Buddha statue in the United States. Ground was broken for Chuang Yen Monastery's first building in 1981 on its 225 acres of land. Many of its structures are designed in the style of China's Tang Dynasty under the direction of architect Edward A Valeri. Areas open to the public are the Great Buddha Hall, Kuan Yin Hall, Dining Hall, Gift Shop, Thousand Lotus Terrace, Seven Jewel Lakes, garden and the Woo Ju Memorial Library. The monastery's name "Chuang Yen" means "Majestically Adorned" in Chinese.
