Long Island is an island in the state of New York that stretches northeast into the Atlantic Ocean. The island is made up of four counties which make up Queens and Brooklyn, two of New York's burrough's. Long island is the longest and largest island in the contiguous United States. Long Island was originally inhabited by the Lenape people, a Native American Tribe until European settlers inhabited the island in 1637. It is one of the most densely populated regions in the U.S. and is home to 39% of the population of the state of New York. The New York Mets regularly play at the City Field in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park located in Queens, and LaGuardia Airport and JFK International Airport are two major New York airports also located in Long Island.
