About Arizona State Capitol

Constructed from 1898-1901 as an effort to show that the Arizona Territory was ready to become a state, the original section of this Classical Revival style Phoenix building is now a state museum with surrounding additions being home to state government offices. The Arizona State Capitol was designed by James Riely and its museum that opened in 1981 welcomes more than 60,000 visitors per year. It offers exhibits, displays and multimedia presentations on state history and symbols. The Capitol building is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
