The Upstate New York gorge has spectacular waterfalls, unique rock formations and lush forests. Located in the Adirondack Mountains, Ausable Chasm was established in 1870 as a public attraction and features the Ausable River flowing through the narrow two-mile-long sandstone canyon that is said to have formed almost 500 million years ago. It is sometimes called "The Grand Canyon of the East." Points of interest are Rainbow Falls, Elephant's Head, The Devil's Oven and Sentinel Rock.
