A grand estate of the Loire Valley, Chateau de Cheverny was originally purchased by Henri Hurault, the military treasurer for Louis XIII, and due to unique political circumstances the chateau has been owned by his descendants ever since the 17th century. In the early 20th century the chateau was opened to the public by the family and welcomed tourists to explore its lavishly decorated halls and apartments. The chateau holds many pieces of antiquity and artwork within its walls; beyond them the estate holds a large English-style park, expansive maze, tulip garden, vegetable garden, and ornamental pleasure garden.
