About Chico

The city of Chico is a cultural California city that is nicknamed the "City of Roses." The city was originally inhabited by the Mechoopda Maidu Native Americans and was later founded by John Bidwell, a member of one of the first California wagon trains, in 1860. Chico is located on the northeast of the Sacramento Valley and east to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The city of Chico is known for its downtown scene, Downtown Chico, and for being 5 miles west of the Sacramento River. Chico is also home to California State University, Chico which educates more than 16,000 students each semester and Bidwell Park, one of the U.S.'s largest municipal parks.
