This sacred ancient site on a cliff above the River Shannon in Ireland contain ruins of a cathedral, seven churches, two round towers, three high crosses and many grave slabs. Clonmacnoise translated in English to mean "Meadow of the Sons of No" dates back to 546 when it was settled by St. Ciaran. Throughout the years, it became an important location for religion and knowledge for the country and parts of Europe. Clonmacnoise located in County Offaly also has a visitors center offering a history of the site.
