This historic castle that was once the seat of British rule in Ireland is today an Irish government complex and a symbol of Irish independence. Dublin Castle was handed over in 1922 to the then Provisional Government of Ireland led by Michael Collins, who was rebuked by the British viceroy for being seven minutes late to the ceremony and famously quipped, "We’ve been waiting 700 years, you can wait seven minutes." Visitors are able to tour the castle and see St. Patrick’s Hall, where Irish presidents are inaugurated.
