Fort McMurray is a urban service area in Alberta, Canada. It was a former city known as just McMurray, until it became an urban service area in 1995, when the Municipality of Wood Buffalo was incorporated. Fort McMurray is situated in the boreal forest at the confluence of the Athabasca River and the Clearwater River, sitting at 370 meters above sea level. Fort McMurray is famous for being a prominent site for oil production since it is located near the Althabasca Oil Sands.
