About Getaria

This quintessential medieval coastal Basque fishing village extends into a harbor on a narrow spit of land that is capped by a forested island. Getaria is also flanked by two sandy beaches. It is best known as the birthplace of Juan Sebastian Elcano, the first man to sail around the world after the captain of his ship, Magellan, died halfway through the voyage.
