The tall hill is topped by a 14th century church tower and was a site for Catholic pilgrimage in medieval times. Pilgrims would climb the hill with peas in their shoes as penance. More than 2,000 years ago, the Tor was on a peninsula, which earned it the name "Island of Glass," but the water has since receded. On the Tor, remnants of the Neolithic and Roman times have been discovered. Many myths and legends also surround the area, especially concerning King Arthur and the Holy Grail. For those looking for a bit of relaxation, the Tor also offers sweeping views of the countryside.
