Considered to be one of the best of its kind in terms of acoustics, the Hungarian State Opera House was built in the late 19th century in the Neo-Renaissance style, with baroque flourishes. Flanking the main entrance are sculptures of two of Hungary's most prominent composers: Ferenc Erkel and Franz Liszt. The lavishness of the interior - don't miss the marble staircase and the enormous bronze chandelier - rivals that of Palais Garnier in Paris and La Scala in Milan. Opera season runs from September to June. The opera house is also home to the Hungarian National Ballet.
