This "gateway to Olympia" is a small and picturesque port town. Katakolon is a popular disembarkation point for cruise ship passengers who want to see nearby Ancient Olympia. The town is surrounded by forested hills, has a 19th-century lighthouse and is home to the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, which displays 200 operating reconstructions of mechanisms and inventions of the ancient Greeks.
