The crystal blue lake at the base of the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York is nicknamed the "Queen of American Lakes" and was a summer colony for the wealthy during the early 1900s. Though Lake George was visited by European explorers Samuel de Champlain and Isaac Jogues during the 1600s, its current title was given by British Commander William Johnson in 1755 naming it after England's King George II. Its surface area is 28,160 acres and it has 395 islands.
