Nestled on the shores of Lake Louise, the small settlement was named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria. The hamlet is composed of two communities: the main community, also known as The Village, which rests at a lower elevation and houses the ski resort, and the second community which is centered around the Chateau Lake Louise, a luxurious resort. Over the past century the hamlet has developed to accommodate visitors who wish to explore the picturesque Canadian mountains and lakes.
