Philanthropist John D. Rockefeller III led the charge to build this 16.3-acre complex to renew the Lincoln Square area of Manhattan. Construction ran from 1955-69 and many architects contributed designs to the cultural gem featuring nearly 30 performance venues. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts buildings include the David H. Koch Theater, Metropolitan Opera House, Juilliard School, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Vivian Beaumont Theater and the Walter Reade Theater.
