The amazing 20-room five-story limestone cliff home of the Sinagua Native American people was built approximately 700 years ago and attracts about 350,000 visitors per year. Montezuma Castle was declared a National Monument in 1906 by United States President Theodore Roosevelt commenting it was "of the greatest ethnological value and scientific interest" and also is on the U.S. Register of Historic Places. The site's Visitor's Center has some artifacts on exhibit in its museum.
