This Vermont town has two historic picket forts - Fort Mott and Fort Vengeance - from the American Revolutionary War. Pittsford was established in 1769 and named after William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham. It features the four covered bridges of Cooley, Depot Hill, Gorham and Hammond. Pittsford was the home of Samuel Hopkins, recipient the first patent in the United States.
