This tranquil 14th-century public square in the Gothic Quarter is surrounded by Gothic architecture that exemplifies Barcelona’s medieval past, including the Royal Palace, where visitors will feel they have gone back in time. The palace was home to the counts of Catalan. Another of Plaza del Rei’s notable buildings is Casa Clariana-Padellàs, which houses the city’s history museum, Museu d’Història de la Ciutat de Barcelona, and contains the archaeological remains of Roman Barcino.
