The port village located on Isabela Island in the Galapagos is the third most populated community of the Ecuadorian archipelago. Puerto Villamil was established in 1893 by Antonio Gil and named after Guayaquil freedom fighter Jose de Villamil. The village is near Las Tintoreras, Flamingo Lagoon and Sierra Negra Volcano. It features a boardwalk running through lush mangroves and serene lagoons. Puerto Villamil has numerous hotels, restaurants and bars.
