This historic city located in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France is called "The World's Champagne Capital" and is known for its magnificent Our Lady of Reims Cathedral that was the coronation site for French kings for hundreds of years. Reims was settled in 80 BC by the Remi tribe, who joined the Romans during their Gaul conquests in 58-51 BC. Most of the city was destroyed by World War I bombing and its buildings had to be restored or rebuilt during the 1920s. In addition to the cathedral, Reims landmarks are Palace of Tau, Mars Gate, The Cryptoporticus, Saint Remi Basilica and Reims Town Hall. Be sure to stop at one of the many champagne houses that the city has to offer.
