About San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site

The 1,200-acre Texas landmark near Houston consists of the Battle of San Jacinto site and the USS Texas. San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site commemorates the April 21, 1836 battle between Texas freedom fighters and the Mexican Army that won Texas its independence. The battleground site in LaPorte has the San Jacinto Monument, an Observation Floor and the San Jacinto Museum of History as well as several recreation areas. The USS Texas was established in 1948 becoming the first battleship memorial museum in the United States.
