The widest set of steps in Europe called Scalinata di Spagna in Italian are a picturesque spot surrounded by Roman Baroque structures and accented with fragrant azaleas growing in the warmer months. The Spanish Steps were built between 1723-25 following the design of architects Alessandro Specchi and Francesco de Sanctis. The 135 steps connect Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinità dei Monti. Nearby attractions are Trinità dei Monti church, Barcaccia Fountain, Keats-Shelley Memorial House, Giorgio De Chirico House and Villa Medici.
