Situated between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, this South Florida city sometimes called "St. Petes" is located within the Tampa Metropolitan Area. St. Petersburg was founded in 1888 and named after the Russian city of the same name as that's where one of its co-founders Peter Demens spent most of his childhood. Popular attractions in "The Sunshine City" include St. Petersburg Pier, Downtown St. Petersburg, Vinoy Park Hotel, Museum of Fine Arts, Great Explorations Children's Museum and the Salvador Dali Museum.
